222 and 260/262 Richmond Road, E8

 

A high quality imaginative design on the part of Avanti Architects, involving almost the complete reconstruction of 260/262 and the total refurbishment of 222 Richmond Road provided 8No very large family units for the Circle 33 Housing Trust. 

The project encompassed practically every construction technique and temporary works possible. Flying and raking shores, scaffold gantries and hoists, temporary roofs, extensive dead shoring and dewatering were all utilized. The structural works included demolition, underpinning, specialist designed foundations, reinforced concrete floors, extensive concrete and brick retaining walls, new drainage and service connections, as well as the total replacement of floor, wall and roof structures. To the front elevation new windows and stucco mouldings were reproduced to faithfully match original features whilst the rear incorporated a unique circular staircase enclosure with slit windows and glass bricks and purpose made metal balconies and staircases that overlooked the terraced gardens.
