112/120 Vassall Road, Camberwell, SE5
This new three storey block of 5No flats and 5No maisonettes necessitated reconstruction of the former listed building façade to the exact original detailing and fenestration but with new materials and methods and in close liaison with both English Heritage and the London Borough of Lambeth Planners.
Cavity walls incorporated snapped headers to mimic the original Flemish bond; the mock box frames windows were purpose made with fully reversible sashes and the roof coverings were of slate with lead box gutters and flashings. Upper floors were constructed of concrete beam and block and staircases reinforced concrete; internal partitions were of blockwork. External car parking for 6No vehicles was provided to the rear. Development of external landscaped areas included the retention of a “London Plane” tree, the subject of a Tree Preservation Order.
