Guildford Hockey Club Pavilion

The pavilion was constructed on the playing fields of Broadwater School. Enabling works involved the construction of a temporary fenced access road some 150m long on a terram membrane from an isolated access point in Summers Road. Associated works included remodelling the existing school main entrances and car parks. Safety issues were of prime consideration given that the school and recreational facilities were in full use. The project was substantially funded by a National Lottery grant with the balance made up from Members contributions. Substantial reductions from the initial tender of £512,000 were negotiated and agreed to meet the Clients available funds. The building is of traditional construction with strip foundations, precast floors / staircases, structural steel portal frame roof with cut and pitched timbers. Features include full disabled access and hydraulic lift, state of the art mechanical and electrical control systems and a full bar facility with generous lounge and terraces overlooking the floodlit hockey pitch. The hockey pavilion is currently one of the finest of its kind in the United Kingdom and was officially opened by Mrs Virginia Bottomley MP.
